Union Database Creation and Maintenance
A union database can be created manually during a retrospective conversion, reclassification project or at the time of current cataloguing. Machine and manual options exist for merging branch or individual school collections into a union file. By creating a union file libraries and school boards can significantly reduce the costs associated with repetitive cataloguing for each site. For newly amalgamated library systems and school boards, DSS also offers "super-union" file creation and ongoing maintenance. The local systems need not be the same within a union environment. DSS outputs full MARC records to different local systems for many of its customers.
